more poetry please

I am currently working on an essay for my English 102 class about the effects of the media on society. I was reading over some statistics regarding the effects of violence on children whilst listening to 'Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die' by Four Year Strong, when it occured to me...I would like to read more poetry.

I've never been a HUGE poetry fan, but I do enjoy a fair share. And I would like to read more. I just think it would be good for me. Beneficial.

Imagine: relaxing in the brisk autumn air, sporting my favorite pea coat and scarf, headphones and ipod in place, colorful leaves all around, sitting on a wonderful bench, reading from a book of poetry passing the time between classes.

I think this sounds wonderful. I'd really like to purchase 'Monsters Under Your Head' by Chad Sugg. I've read some of the poems. They are great. I consider it a good investment. And a great addition to my coffee table.

I'd also like to buy a ton of new music. I love fall and all its releases! I just need some more money :)

10 Things Part 2

A month ago I posted a blog about a blog written by Adam Young of Owl City. If by now you still havent checked him out, so do it now. Or just listen to Fuzzy Blue Lights on my play list on your right. THEN go to his myspace.

Anyway, Adam made a list of ten things that make him happy and then asked what makes us happy. I didn't have an answer at the time, but I do now.

01 daydreams
02 my ibanez electric acoustic
03 brushing my teeth
04 cotton dresses
05 really really big rings
06 elephants
07 bonfires
08 good music
09 waking up fully rested with an exciting day ahead
10 fireflies (i wish we had them in idaho)

I could definately go on, but for today I will not.
So, what makes you happy?

I'm a Bit Frustrated

I had a bunch of things I felt like writing about earlier today, but now I cannot remember what they were. Dang. I still want to write though. And the thing on my mind is judgement.

We all judge. I judge a lot. Yes, I will judge you on you clothes, speech, and taste is music. But I am always willing to change my mind about you.

But more particularily I would like to speak about judging your friends. Why, after you are friends with someone, would you continue to judge them? You judged me when you met me so why are you doing it now...6 years later. Now more than you ever have in our lives. Why, do I feel more judged by you than the new people I meet every single day. Ya, I'm changing, get over it. I'm not changing from who I am though. I'm basically the same person. I'm just adding a little bit more to my taste and style. Not a big deal.

So, I do not think you have any right or reason to be judging me. You are making me think less of myself and that is no bueno. And it is especially no bueno when you are the only one doing it.

I don't like you.

P.S. Don't bail on me. And that goes for everyone. And don't keep putting off making plans. Clearing my schedule is in no way easy. I understand that you are also working and going to school just as much as me, but please for a second consider that I am also in choir, doing PR for a nonprofit organization, and single-handedly running 2 businesses here, so time off is hard to come by. And next time I'm rearranging my schedule for you and running a million different places so that I can see you for 2 hours, do not bail on me do not ditch me and do not be the stupid person you are being.

Do You Feel

How many times on this blog site alone have I mentioned how much I love Bryce Avery and his vision for The Rocket Summer. One man bands, let me tell you.

I actually have nothing to say. I'm too much in aw.

On September 5, 2008, Bryce officially released his newest music video for "Do You Feel", off his album of the same title. You may have seen pictures circulating through different media forms of people with a hand up and words written on it. Yup, that all comes from Bryce.

I wanted badly to post the video on here, but I can't seem to get the information I need for it. I could get it off youtube and stick it up, but the quality just isn't there. So read what he has to say (taken off his own blog at www.myspace.com/therocketsummer) and then head on over to the link I've posted on the bottom. I hope this video does to you what it does to me. I got chills and teary eyed. If you're a true TRS fan you might get that too. If you really understand what Bryce stands for and what he's trying to do, then there's no way you couldn't feel the same things I felt.

"Hey guys,
I just finished putting together a video for the song 'Do You Feel' with my friend Nate Weaver. This video was shot in California, Texas, Washington and Africa. I wrote the song 'Do you feel' about how there are so many issues in the world, and how we all deep down want to help but have our own issues that get in the way. I wanted to shoot a video that really captured this with the hope of it really lighting a fire in people. I wanted a video that inspired. This video features real people with real stories of homelessness, addiction, and disease as well as some friends of mine that we've toured with over the years. These people are Andrew McMahon of Jack's Mannequin, Matt Thiessen of Relient K, Josh Farro and Jeremy Davis of Paramore, Forrest Kline of Hellogoodbye, Mike Herrera of MxPx, Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low and Jonathan Cook of Forever The Sickest Kids. I had an idea and a really small budget as I paid for this entirely myself and I couldn't be happier about how it turned out."

p.s. if for some reason the sound doesn't work (it won't on this particular computer) head to his myspace, start the music there, then start the video. it really isn't that difficult to align them.

New Music

I'm sure if you're speakers are on, you've realized that the song currently isn't the song that was playing last time you were here. That's right, it's time for some new music.

First up on the play list, Danger Radio. I saw them in August when they came to town on the Cute Is What We Aim For Tour. They were second. I wasn't too thrilled, but I blame my lack of previous listening. These guys are creating a sound that meshes pop and rock with a bit of a spanish flavor thrown in the mix. Don't believe me? Give their acoustic stuff a listen. Go on. Head over to youtube and search up that shiz. Give Elans playing a good look at and then tell me there isn't some flavor in there. And if the lead singer, Andrew de Torres, looks a bit familiar, it's probably because you've seen him doing work under the name The Scene Aesthetic. Give them a listen to while you're at it. Great stuff. It will be quite interesting to see what happens when Matt Bowley gets back from the mish.

Anyway, next up, Ace Enders and A Million Different People. They played after Danger Radio on the Cute tour. GREAT freaking stuff. Does the Ace Enders name sound familiar? Ace is the former lead singer and guitarist of the defunct band The Early November. He was also the lead musician, songwriter and co-producer in his side project, I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business, and A Million Different People. And, he is the owner of independent record label Regular Music. Enders also founded an organization called The Sound of Evolution. It is "devoted to exploring and experimenting with solutions for creating a symbiotic relationship between music and the modern world." It is trying to reconnect the link between artists, their music, and their fans. And, he's only 26. Impressed? I am. Immensely. He has officially been added to the list of people I want to work with. Head over to www.fuse.tv to download his newest album, The Secret Wars, for FREE!

Coming up third on the playlist is Christopher Drew (Ingle), the mastermind behind the one man group Nevershoutnever! Chris began this project in September of 07 and through the greatness of Myspace music, has found a rapid success. He was recently featured on TRL as part of their new program thing, I don't remember what it's called. But during TRL they have unsigned bands who've basically found fame through the web onto the show to play a song acoustic. I like it. Much. NSN has been doing a lot of touring around his mid-west home playing alongside Meg and Dia, and at this years Foundry Fest. This fall, he will take on his first big tour alongside Hellogoodbye and Ace Enders and A Million Different People. Anyone want to drive to Seattle with me November 21-23?

Next up, Owl City. Another one man band from the mid-west.
"It is distinctly obvious that Young has potential surpassed by few in his genre, and Maybe I'm Dreaming is an effective portrayal of how Young has progressed. The emotion is almost touchable, and the way Owl City picks you up, takes you on a journey of the sky and other surreal and abstract worlds, and then gently sets you down again, is amazing." -AbsolutePunk.net
I couldn't have said it better myself. He's got something different. His voice, his beats, his synth. It's just....pleasant. It does to me the things I do only when I hear those songs and sounds that mean a little more. Bryce Avery's voice, Metro Station's full length self-titled album, The Maine's EP. All have the same effect. Lets add Adam Young to that list now shall we? Just read his description about what Owl City really is.
A city where happy owls live, work, breathe, ride bikes and fly kites. They pick flowers, sing in the shower, salsa dance, swim in pools, knit sweaters and read dreamy books with happy endings. They roller skate, watch romantic movies, drive clean cars to church, hold hands on the beach and run on treadmills after they eat a lot of pizza. They enjoy vanilla skies, swinging on swing sets, walking in the rain, pajama parties, wearing fuzzy sweatshirts in the winter and imagining what it would be like to breathe underwater. Owl City is an innocent place where life is pleasant and enjoyable. It's a place where pretty owl girl flight attendants smile at handsome boy owls at 30,000 feet. It's a place where little owls sometimes get lost in grocery stores but they always find their momma's again. =]
P.S. the blog 2 before this, ya thats his picture and his lyrics.

Who said Nashville's all about country? Um, I think not. You wouldn't believe the rock/indie scene there. Incredible. Proof? Backseat Goodbye. Another one man band name Chad Sugg. This kid is doing it all. Much like Ace, but differently. He recently released a book of poetry, and just in the last month released his first full length album. Chad began his Backseat Goodbye endeavors in his freshman year of college in 2004. Now look where he's at. Chad is only 22. A couple days ago he officially announced the start up of his very own design company (he was a graphic design major). I've chatted with Chad and we may be doing some work together for my company. It's a bit up in the air now, but I would definitely be keeping my eyes open for some cool things from us if I were you. I really wanted to add the song "Summer Drive Song", but it isn't available on the website. Please head over to his myspace and listen to it. I very much enjoy it. That and "Technicolor Eyes" are my favorite. Wanna learn more about Chad? Read both his personal blog and his Backseat Goodbye blog listen under my "blogs I read".
www.myspace.com/backseatgoodbye

And last on the new playlist, another one man band. This seems to be a trend in my life (can anyone say The Rocket Summer?). This young man comes to us from Denver, Colorado. I can't say much about Nick Cocozzella because frankly, I don't know much. But I do like this song. The 8 bar intro alone tells you there is a little something more to this song. He even follows it with soft, whisper like lyrics. If that's not enough to keep you listening then get off my blog. Cuz then it happens. Silence. An entire measure. What just happened? I was feeling a beat, getting into it, and then...huh? But Nick comes right back in on one. "Fall, don't you really wanna fall from the star. You know that heavens not that far from the star. I bet you're falling deeper in the dark." Powerful. Addictive. I love it. "Man I think that's hot!"

All of these artists are young, talented, and showing the world that you don't have to wait for anyone to do the things you want to do.
And, they run their Myspace pages. It's true, they do. So what you see, ya that's them. That would be how I'm lucky enough to make work plans with Chadd Sugg. The joy of indie music.

I like when you randomly see an old friend that you haven't seen in a long time. I especially like when they've become incredibly attractive. Like, when you first met them they weren't that attracive...you know back when they had that thing for you but you didn't for them cuz they weren't that attractive (gotta love junior high)...but then you drifted apart and they became moderately attractive, and then you go for a long time without seeing them and then they're just drop dead gorgeous. Ya I like that. No wait...no I don't. That sucks. What the heck have I missed out on in my life because of my shallow behavior. Holy crap.

But I do like when that increased attractiveness is also accompanied by an increase in maturity and in just overall kindness. Mmmmmboy you are hot.
