Water

Kids, don't ever take water for granted. I did. I learned this lesson the hard way. Over the past few years I have grown very fond of water. Seriously, it's just sooo good! Refreshing, delicious taste, it's just great.

Now, I thought I had taken water for granted already and been over it, but I guess not cuz it left me again. See, I used to drink a lot of sodas and juice I guess. Lots of orange juice. But I never really had water except a glass with dinner which I never really drank and then only when I really needed it. I got over that. Now at dinner I finish my glass before we've even sat down and have to go get another one. Sometimes two more full glasses. I used to carry around a bottle of water all the time, constantly refilling. I just loved water. And then I moved to Utah. Let me tell you kids, the tap water in Logan, UT is the WORST! It's just disgusting. Warm, metallic tasting; not at all refreshing. It sucked because even in my bathroom at home the tap water was still so good. That's probably some of the best water in the house. Shh no one knows. But this Logan water...gross. We had two sinks in the bathroom, and one in the kitchen which was also horrible. Being that close to water and being disgusted by it is one of the biggest let downs in the world. Luckily, there was a water fountain in the main building of our bdiuldings. Then they decided to turn it off. Morons. Then the ones down at Albertsons were turned off. It was an epidemic. There was no water. Luckily the Marketplace saved me and had very nice cold water for me. But still. Even taking the water from our sinks and putting it in the fridge didn't help. Kids, I almost died. I think I died a little inside. But then I would come home. Ah glorious home with fantastic water. It is great.

So since I've been home I have always had my trusty nalgene bottle with me at all times. It's great to have water again. But oh wait! That will soon come to a crashing end I am warned as we pull up to my neighborhood Wednesday evening upon my return to Boise. The city feels the need to make the pump house for the lake larger to add more tanks and more pipes, so soon they are going to turn the water off (while also occupying the only real entrance into our neighborhood. I'm not so bitter about this one though, it's fun to go through the gate that has been locked every day since our move to Boise). Today was slash is no water day. My parents told me last night, I of course forgot. My mother came in at 8:40 this morning to wake me up telling me 'you can get in the shower now, or you can go shower at the gym'. Granted the gym to which she refers is no joke a one minute drive from my house out to the main street (I don't even leave private road, how spoiled am I?), but I just didn't feel the need to go through that, even though it meant sleeping in a bit longer. So at about 10 til I finally got up and showered. No drama. Eventually they turned the water off. Luckily my mother is a thinker and filled up a couple water bottles and jugs of water. She filled up a special one for me from the fridge cuz she's the coolest(I really like the fridge water, everyone else says it's too cold and not good for me...I don't really care), unfortunately we seem to have overlooked the fact that we are all in fact fish and drink more water than probably natural. We're kind of running out. The water was supposed to be on two hours ago. They still haven't put the pipes back in the ground. We don't actually know when we will have water again. I do hope it is soon, because my hands are really oily from dinner (finger-food when there's no water - not our brightest idea), I'm really thirsty, and I would just love to brush my teeth. Oh well I guess. Hopefully the water comes on tonight. Everyone else in my house has to get up early tomorrow and shower. Dang I have to get up semi-early and shower. But it's more of a damper for them cuz they don't really have options here. I do. But still, I just really want to wash my hands.

So, I am off to grab some ice and wash away. Remember kids: don't take our beloved water for granted. And if the city is going to shut off your water and you think you have enough for one day without water, go fill more bottles so you have double the amount from when you started. I promise it's the right move.

have good days
later
