Yessssss Jazz!

Today I made it into the BSU Vocal Jazz Choir. YES!! I died at USU without it, so this is just wonderful. Right now there are 7 singers, hopefully 8. One kid I know is trying out today. And then the combo, but we still need a guitar player. Know any jazz guitarists? Let me know.

I guess I’ll never know why sparrows love the snow
We’ll turn off all of the lights and set this ballroom aglow

Fantasitc

Great day. Just great. Ok maybe not the WHOLE day, but the evening was great!

I had to work today and I got up late so I was late to work and then I had to go to WinCo, which I loathe doing (not to say that I loathe WinCo because I really don't, I just hate that I have to go for work) and then I was supposed to go to the bank but didn't really have that much time, and my goal is to never go to the bank for work. I think it's a good goal. Anyway, I forgot that today is a half-day for the Boise school district, so all the Boise High kids thought it would be cool to come downtown after school. Which meant I got a million and a half prissy little bitchy girls. They were RUDE! How dare you be rude to me you stupid little high school girl! But then the normal downtown kids came in which is always very nice. Like my cousin and Zach and all the other kids I only know because they sit out on the benches on 8th street everyday and it is wonderful.

When I finally left work I went to school. I had choir. We got out audition material. I saw some old friends. Then I went to Karas. They fed me dinner which was nice because otherwise I wouldn't have eaten today except the sandwich my wonderful mother made for me. Then Kara and I went to open mic night out in Meridian.

We've been to this open mic night before. Twice. Just the last two weeks in a row. The guys who work there are really nice. When we got there I had my guitar and one of the guys, I still don't know his name, came up and asked us, "Are you guys playing? I didn't know you were musicians!" It's nice to be remembered.

So we were the last ones to play which was kind of cool. A lot of lame-o's had left which I like. If you ever decide to go, stay for the whole thing! The last hour is really chill. Anyway we played 3 songs. The first one was a song Kara wrote. She sang lead and I played guitar. Then we played a song I wrote and I sang lead and she played guitar. And our last song was a cover of Roses by Meg and Dia. We've been singing this song together for about a year and I guess it shows. It's really fun to play and really fun to sing. When we finished the guy who runs the thing commented on how our voices blend together really well. And his friend said my guitar has a great sound. Gotta love the Ibanez! So it went really well. We got a lot of compliments. We really impressed the guy who played before us. And the kid who works there said we sound really great. We impressed him. Score!

So...I'm thinking playing with your best friend, someone you've known for over 6 years, definitely plays off.

When I got home I told my parents about the whole thing. Then my sister gave me a letter. IT'S FROM SPENCER! Dear Elder Spencer Rogers who left the MTC this week for Germany! What a perfect thing to come home to after playing music for random people. It's the first letter I've gotten from him (course I've only sent him one :)) and it has a picture and everything. SO GREAT!

Soooooo, great day. Tomorrow I guess I officially start school, being as thats when I have real classes. And my vocal jazz audition. So I need to go practice.

have good days,
-kel:)

10 Things That Make Me Happy

So there's this kid from Minnesota named Adam. Adam loves making music. One of his musical projects is his one man band, Owl City. I highly suggest you check it out at myspace.com/owlcity. Anyway, the point is that on his Myspace blog he posted one entitled '10 Things That Make Me Happy'. I read it. It is simply a picture of the sky and a list of ten things that make him happy. At the end he asks, 'What makes you happy?'

Well I thought about that question. And I thought some more and some more. Thing is, it's hard to narrow it down to just ten. At first maybe it's hard to think of ten, but after a second or so it isn't. And if making your own list, do you list the ten things that make you the most happy? Or just ten things?

Well, here is Adams list. When I decide on mine maybe I will post that also. Until then, go think of your own list.

01 Music
02 Stargazing
03 Swingsets by the beach
04 Flip flops and designer jeans
05 Blue eyes
06 Driving with the sunroof open
07 Red Bull
08 Bunny tracks ice-cream
09 Sleeping in
10 Fireflies in the twilight

What makes you happy?

Twin Falls, Idaho

Twin Falls, Idaho...saying that always makes me sing the Ben Folds song about Twin Falls, Idaho. He hated it. I probably would also.

Today I went on a mini road trip with the Wight family to Twin Falls, Idaho to see the new temple. It was cool. I've never walked through a temple before. Great paintings, great murals. Just great. Gigantic chandeliers. I want one. Badly. And I learned that the Idaho state flower is the syringa. I didn't know that. I wasn't here in fourth grade. I was in Maryland. Anyway, the syringa is EVERYWHERE in that building, which is really cool. It's in the carpet, windows, molding...basically anything you can think of it is probably there. I always think it's cool to see things tied together like that.

Afterwards we took pictures. That was an adventure. Maybe I'll get them soon from the Wights. Maybe. I do hope so. And after that we went to Sizzler which I had never been to. Also, an adventure.

So it was a day of firsts. My first temple viewing, first Sizzler experience, first time in Twin Falls, Idaho. I think it was a success.

Frustration

I just want to make the music in my head into a tangible piece of our world. Why is it so freaking hard to figure out?

An Update?

Well it's been a little while since I last posted and I just feel like talking. Just got back from vacation Saturday night. Then went straight to a concert. Awesome. Vacation was another cruise to Alaska. This time we took Princess. Compared to Celebrity, well...shows and food are a million times better on Celebrity, but there is soooo much more going on around the ship on Princess which was a huge plus for me. I hate being bored. Plus I love games. Like pictionary and random trivia and dance classes, and we (me and my new friends) played a bunch of taboo. Awesome. The crew is pretty awesome on both. Though I will be honest and say that the food service crews are kinda lame or Princess. But the assistant cruise directors and such are pretty fun. Some interesting experiences with them were had. We also went ziplining in Juneau and horseback riding in Skagway. Those were cool.

So for entertainment, one night there was this comedian/singer/guitarist/world champion juggler which was impressive. My friends and I sat in the front row so he gave us all a free box of Raisin Bran cereal. Those small boxes. I asked him to sign mine after. He also did this one trip where he needed a higher ceiling, and the venue was a really low ceiling, so after messing up a couple times I told him there was an opening right in front of me. He made fun of me and said it was too small. Then he tried and it worked. WHAT NOW! He thanked me. Anyways, after wards my friends and I were talking to him. He said my brother was his favorite audience member (it's not exactly hard to make him laugh really hard) and he told me I had really pretty eyes. Just now, he added me on facebook with a message saying "It's the girl with pretty eyes :) Nice meeting you and your friends :)" I feel pretty cool right about now.

Anyway, got back Saturday and went to a concert. My friend Tiffany had free tickets to the Cute Is What We Aim For Concert so she gave me one. That was awesome of her. At the show it went Powerspace, DangerRadio, Ace Enders and Million Different People, then Cute. Powerspace has an AMAZING guitar player. He blew my mind with his solos. The girls went crazy for DangerRadio which was awkward. Ace Enders was great. I've never heard of them but I really liked their music. I was the only one dancing. Right in front of the bass player. He gave me his pick at the end. He reached down and all these hands started swarming mine which didn't help cuz I was exactly the tallest one there. But he kept on reaching and stuck that pick right down into my hand and waited til my hand was wrapped around his and the pick before he let go. So awesome. I love when people do stuff like that. After the show I talked to him for a bit and asked him to sign my pick. He was nice. I liked it. Then I got a picture with the lead singer and one of the guitarists in Powerspace. They were really nice. I walked up and told Alec (singer) that I really like the show and he just gave me a huge hug. Later I told Max (guitar) that I was really blown away by his playing. He was very grateful. "No really, that you so much! That is so kind! I'm so glad you like it!" Great night.

So nowadays, I don't work until Wednesday cuz the manager wasn't sure when I got back. Even though I marked the days I would be gone on the calendar months ago. Whatever, not my problem. I quite like the extended break. I start school soon and have only signed up for 2 classes. I should probably figure out what the hell else I'm taking. I've also been neglecting my music recording and my clothing company. I really need to step it up. I'm trying to find more jobs. One is just setting up kiosks twice a month. Like putting up posters. Sweet job and good pay. Love it. Want it. Need it.

Oh, if you have any tshirt ideas or designs that you'd like made I'm sure we could make out a sweet deal. Like make them under my label and split profits. I'm down for that. As long as I like your ideas. Don't be offended if I don't. They either suck or just aren't the right style for the company. Not a big deal. If you're reading this you know how to contact me so please do. Also, I'm up for some music collabs as well. Hit me up for that one also.

In some exciting news, I am currently planning my next concert weekend adventure. Again to Salt Lake, but with a possible stop in Pocatello? I do hope so. 3 days 2 nights 2 concerts 8 bands. Good idea!

have good days
later
